Ileana D'Cruz is an Indian film actress. She made her Telugu language debut through Y.V.S. Chowdhary's Devadasu opposite the then-newcomer, Ram. She is also popular in the Tamil film industry and Bollywood.
D'Cruz was born in Mumbai in India of a Goan parentage. Her father is a Roman Catholic called Ronaldo Leo, a lawyer, and her mother, Sameera is a Muslim. Her parents named her after Ileana (Helen of Troy) from Greek mythology.
She debuted in the Telugu language film Devadasu in 2006 directed by Y.V.S. Chowdhary spotted her in a Fair and Lovely ad film directed by Rakesh Roshan. The film did not get good reviews from the critics, but it was a success at the box office and Ileana attracted a lot of attention for her charm and beauty.
Her breakthrough came with her second Telugu film, where she essayed the role of Shruti opposite Mahesh Babu in the highly successful Pokiri. The film gained her good reviews. She then made her Tamil language film debut alongside Ravi Krishna in Kedi. Although the film did not do so well at the box office, Ileana was sought-after by many directors and actors in Tamil, which she eventually rejected due to her commitments in Telugu.
She also has to her credit famous Hindi movies like Rustom, Main Tera Hero, Raid, etc.
Ileana D'Cruz predominantly appears in Telugu and Hindi films. She won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South for the 2006 Telugu film Devadasu. She has appeared in films like Pokiri (2006), Jalsa (2008), Kick (2009), and Julayi (2012). D'Cruz also appeared in Kollywood with Kedi and Nanban (2012). In 2012, she made her Bollywood debut with Barfi!, for which she received the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.
